Martha Castillo

Board Member for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

In her professional life, Martha currently is In-House Counsel for Pan-American Life Insurance Group. Originally from Nicaragua moved to New Orleans 36 years ago. Martha earned her Juris Doctorate Degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua and a Post Baccalaureate Degree in Paralegal Studies at Tulane University. Martha holds a great many professional designations, and is a current member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, American Bar Association, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Louisiana and Louisiana Notary Association.

Martha volunteers for numerous charitable organizations and serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of ASI-Federal Credit Union, President of the Latin American Civic Association of Louisiana (LACAL), Chair of the Latino Commission, group commissioned by the Office of the Governor of Louisiana to identifying obstacles to the effective delivery of governmental services to the Latin American population in the State of Louisiana.

She is also a Member of:

  • AARP Diversity Advisory Council – Louisiana,
  • Legal advisor to the Asociación Nicaragüense de Louisiana (ANDELA), and
  • Past President of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Louisiana
  • Past President of the Nicaragua Relief Fund.

 

Martha was also the recipient of the Louisiana Credit Union League’s 2008 Community and Political Advocate of the year Award for her dedication and service to the credit union, and chosen as an honoree for the CityBusiness 2010 Women of the Year.
